Dunkin Donuts hot cappuccino

What is in it

A Dunkin cappuccino is one third espresso, one third steamed milk and one third foam. A latte at the same size uses the same espresso but roughly twice the milk and a thin layer of foam. Same price, different ratio. If you want to taste the coffee, order the cappuccino. If you want it creamy, order the latte.

Hot cups at Dunkin are smaller than iced cups, which is why a large hot cappuccino is 20 oz while a large iced is 32 oz.

Flavors

Cappuccino foam holds flavor on top, so a light hand works best:

• One pump of caramel or French vanilla swirl
• A hazelnut or toasted almond shot for sugar free
• Cinnamon sugar topping, which some stores will sprinkle on request

Three full pumps of swirl, the default, makes the foam collapse and the drink tastes like a sweet latte. Ask for one or two.

Calories

Because there is less milk, a cappuccino is the lowest calorie milk drink on the hot menu. A medium with whole milk is about 130 calories. Skim milk drops it to around 80. Each pump of swirl adds about 50.

Cappuccino vs latte at Dunkin

Same price, same espresso. The cappuccino has half the milk and a thick foam cap. It is stronger, has fewer calories, and cools faster. The latte is smoother and stays hot longer in the car. If you drink it slowly, get the latte. If you drink it at the counter, get the cappuccino.
