The espresso blend
Dunkin switched to a new espresso recipe in 2018 and has used the same dark roast Arabica blend since. It is pulled from super-automatic machines, so every shot is consistent. Expect chocolate and toasted notes, low acidity, and a short crema. It is not a specialty coffee shop espresso, but it is reliable and it costs about half as much.
What each drink is
- Espresso: just the shot. Single or double, served in a small cup.
- Americano: espresso topped with hot or cold water. Tastes like strong black coffee with a lighter body.
- Latte: espresso with steamed milk and a thin foam layer. Smooth and milky.
- Cappuccino: same espresso, half as much milk, a thick foam cap. Stronger coffee taste.
- Macchiato: milk first, espresso poured on top so it layers. The strongest tasting milk drink.
- Signature Latte: a flavored latte with whipped cream and toppings. Caramel Craze and Cocoa Mocha year round.
- Shakin’ Espresso: espresso shaken with ice, sweetener and a splash of milk. Iced only.

Dunkin does not publish an official shot policy and franchise stores vary. If you want a strong medium, ask for an extra shot and pay the dollar. It is cheaper than sizing up.

The Americano. A small hot americano is about $2.79, only 50 cents more than a drip coffee, and it uses the same double shot as a $4.19 latte. If you drink coffee black, an americano gives you the espresso taste for the lowest price on the menu.
Extra shot vs bigger size
An extra shot is about $0.99. Going from small to medium is $0.50 on a latte but adds milk, not coffee, at stores that use one shot for both sizes. If your goal is more caffeine, buy the shot.
